PREFACE:-
In this article we are going to discuss about the festival of bonds, festival of pray, festival of lots of love, festival of joy, festival of strength, festival of lots of promises, festival of lots of gifts, festival of solemn and lots of purity. Yes, as you have read the title, we are talking about the RAKSHBANDHAN. The festival shows the relation between the brother and sister.
RAKSHABANDHAN shows the purity of the brother-sister relation, the importance of this relation in each person, the emotions & sensations for the sisters have towards her brother and same the brother have towards his sister & the intimacy and fondness of the brothers-sisters. It reveals that how warmth this relation is. How much attachment have a sister to her brother.
On this festival the sister invokes her words to god for her brother’s strength, long life, for his success and prosperity. And in return the brother gives his words or promise or commitment that he will protect her or take care of her life long. At this very day sister ties RAKHI to her brother that is the representation of BONDS and in return brother gives gifts to her and his word of honour. So, here we can imagine that how much respect, love, attachment, emotions tie up with the festival.

OLD TALES ABOUT THE FESTIVAL(RAKSHABANDHAN) :-
In our India there are lots of festivals that have religious and the spiritual importance and RAKSHABANDHAN is the finest example of it. This is the festival of tradition. The tradition of tie symbol of bonds as RAKHI and in return giving the Word of honour. This festival is the representation of love, faith, fondness between brothers and sisters.
Now we see the OLD TALE behind this specific festival. It’s said in old times that once the devils have won over the GOD and INDRADEV. At this very moment INDRANI(GODESS) have tied a RAKSH(RAKHI) to her husband INDRADEV and explained him about the Glory of this and then the INDRADEV won over the devils. So this is the reason behind celebration for the RAKSHABANDHAN.
The day for the festival is the Full moon (PURNIMA) of the Shrawan maas. On this very day two more festival has been celebrated. One is RAKSHABANDHAN, second one Is to change JANOI of Brhamin and third one is SAMUDRA POOJAN of the merchants(VEPARI).

CELEBRATIONS:-
Well, in this festival the sister tie up the RAKHI to her brother which are of different designs. Then she put up TILAK on her brother’s Forehead which is the energy centre and pray GOD for the brother’s success and prosperity. In return brother gives his sister different kinds of GIFTS and his WORD for the protection of his sister. This is the way normally RAKHI DAY has been celebrated.
