Basically, the reason behind the name shrawan maas is that it is related with the birth star of god Vishnu or shrawan maas. This is main reason behind the name. And it Is noted that it is the full moon night in the shrawan maas.

During the entire month people prays to lord MAHADEV or SHANKAR BHAGWAN or MAHAKAAL for their life and for their loved ones. And by performing different activities to make happy the lord shiv. People do various puja, various kinds of fast during the entire month are the some activities. 

This entire holy month contain some other festivals also like NAGA PANCHAMI, RAKSHABANDHAN, SHRAVANI PURNIMA etc.

During the entire month the SHIVA particles were super active due to nakshatras so that if we worship the god with depth of our heart it helps us for happy life of our selves and for our loved ones.

 By doing puja people tries to get the blessings of lord shiv. Also people thinks that during this time we can improvise our positivity and remove negativity. People pray for their health, wealth, happiness, job, etc.

The shrawan somwar(Mondays of entire months) have special importance in this festival. People does fast on this day. As normally by doing fast people get blessing of god and remove negativities from their life and as the shrawan mas is most holy month so some people does fast for the entire month as well.

INCIDENT OF SAMUDRA MANTHAN:-

Once the DANAV(demon) won against DEVTAS(god). All the DEVTAS went to the god Vishnu for the solution of it and lord Vishnu advised them to go at the bottom of Ksheer sagar  also known as milky ocean to get back their strengths.

NILKANTH

After the churring the many things comes out that we known as fourteen elements of the ocean. But the one element is poison known as HALAHAL. The poison is that much of strong that it can alone destroy the entire world. So, lord shiva decided to accept that poison themselves. As just the lord shiva drink that poison his wife Parvati (GODDESS) saw that and to control this she puts her hand on the throat of lord shiva so that poison can not spread in shiva’s body. Due to this reason shiva’s throat turned into blue and from that incident we know them as nilkanth.
